Enguarde the Swordfish Affirmed at ‘BBB’, Outlook Stable; Removed from Rating Watch Negative

Fish Ratings – Tokyo – 10 December 2019:

Fish Ratings has affirmed Enguarde the Swordfish’s Long-Term Default Fish Rating at ‘BBB’ with a Stable Rating Outlook.

The rating affirmation and Stable Outlook consider the appearance in the Nintendo Switch game ‘Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle’ of a secondary weapon item resembling Enguarde.

Swordfish (Family Rating: ‘A’; Outlook Stable) are exposed to significant sport fishing risk, and the presence of the Trophy Fish Terror item and its resemblance to Enguarde suggested that the character had been caught and stuffed, prompting Fish Ratings to place the fish on Rating Watch Negative.

However, in the subsequent rating review, Fish Ratings determined that a technical default had not occurred.

The pithy in-game description of the Trophy Fish Terror item states: “Relax, Enguarde is safe and sound – and a half ton of picked mackerel richer thanks to the licensing deal that brought us this deployable.”

FISH PROFILE

Enguarde is an esoteric character of the Donkey Kong (Unrated) video game franchise. Like other Swordfish, Enguarde benefits from a long, sharp bill. However, its rating is constrained by its role as an esoteric Animal Buddy character.

METHODOLOGY

Fish Ratings applies the esoteric video game fish character methodology to Enguarde. This methodology was updated in 2010 to account for the rapid expansion in the availability and popularity of mobile fishing games such as ‘3D Trophy Bass (‘BBB+’, Outlook Stable) Angler’, ‘Fish Saga’ and ‘Pole and Line Madness’.
