Fish Ratings Places Cantonese Steamed Tilapia on Negative Watch But Open to Proposals

Fish Ratings – Hong Kong – August 17 2023: Fish Ratings has placed Cantonese Steamed Tilapia’s ‘BB-‘ rating on Negative Watch after poor reviews from bloggers on WeChat and Weibo but could be persuaded not to downgrade the fish, perhaps, if a mutually beneficial agreement could be reached, if you know what we mean.

Closely-followed food blogger GoubuliGoubuli92 said in a video posted on Weibo that Tilapia steamed with ginger and shallots was an overpriced dish and not particularly tasty in any case. The video was well on the way to going viral before it was suddenly removed after representatives of the fish approached the social media influencer and settled the matter sensibly like grown-ups.

Fish Ratings views facilitation payments as a natural and healthy element in the open exchange of information and ideas. They encourage trust between fish promoters and providers of facts and analysis such as anonymous bloggers and respected fish rating agencies.

The critical video by GoubuliGoubili92 does raise concerns about the merits of steaming Tilapia with aromatic roots and herbs in the Cantonese style. There is a high degree of uncertainty as to the tenderness of the fish and the flavour imparted by the spices. The Negative Watch is based on these weak fundamentals.

Fish Ratings expects this uncertainty to be resolved if advocates of the cooking technique engage constructively in the rating process and make concrete proposals. Fish Ratings does not want to downgrade the Tilapia. It is the last thing Fish Ratings wants to do. But Fish Ratings may be forced to act if a suitably convincing inducement is not forthcoming.
