Fish Ratings Assigns Iceland’s Fresh Batch of 28 Breaded Fish Fingers ‘B+(EXP)’

Fish Ratings – London – 25 Jul 2023: Fish Ratings has assigned Iceland’s new delivery of packets of 28 Breaded Fish Fingers an expected rating of ‘B+(EXP)’. The rating is aligned with its existing stock. The new batch will partly replace packets that have been in the freezers since September 2017 and have a use-by date in May 2025.

The rating is constrained by a fish-to-breadcrumb ratio of 58%, which is in line with low-cost Pollock-based peers such as Morrisons Savers Fish Fingers 10 Pack (‘B+’, Out of Stock) but lags behind premium products such as ASDA 30 Cod Fillet Fish Fingers (‘BBB’, Stable) and Tesco 10 Cod Fish Fingers (‘BBB’, reduced from £2.20 to £2.00), both of which have an FTB of 64%.

There is limited read-across to Jackson Pollock (‘Number 1, 1950 (Lavender Mist)’, Unstable), who was an American abstract expressionist painter rather than a bag of frozen fish fingers.

The new batch of packets of 28 Breaded Fish Fingers is slightly smaller than previous deliveries, resulting in a lower overall stock, improved freezer air circulation, lower energy costs and a reduction in stock rotation failure risk. As a result, Fish Ratings revised the Outlook on 28 Breaded Fish Fingers’ ‘B+’ rating to Stable from Negative on 20 July 2023.
